52 Ways to Enjoy Robin Hood's Bay: #6 Pop The Question & Say I Do

52 Ways to Enjoy Robin Hood's Bay: #6 Pop The Question & Say I Do

Pop The Question & Say I Do

Have you been wondering about Popping The Question?

Do you love Robin Hood’s Bay? Maybe you’ve been thinking of a coastal destination?

This is our Guide to Popping The Question & Saying I Do here in magical Robin Hood’s Bay.

Romantic Robin Hood’s Bay

Perched on the coast between the surrounding cliffs of Scarborough and Whitby sits a Bay. The backdrop of the Bay is an old Yorkshire fishing village. This is Robin Hood’s Bay. The gem on the picturesque coastal edge of the North York Moors National.

Built on a steep hill the old 17th Century village heads down to the Bay. Winding streets, steep steps and cobbled alleyways make up what was once called Baytown. A maze of a village it’s easy to get lost here in Robin Hood’s Bay. Just all part of the magic of what makes it so special.

The cute Fisherman’s cottages, the cosy pubs, the small quirky little shops and tearooms lend themselves well to making Robin Hood’s Bay a romantic destination.

A Cosy Romantic Cottage Stay

Would it be romantic if it wasn’t cosy? Cosy is what we have here in Robin Hood’s Bay. Red pantile rooftops, stacked up cottages and cobbled alleyways. Smoking chimneys, the roar of the sea and chatter of seagulls filling the air.

Quirky and cute, some big enough to comfortably sleep four or more yet perfectly sized for just two. Some with log fires, sea views or dog friendly.

No cottage in Robin Hood’s Bay is far from the beach or coastal walks. Everything you need is right here on the doorstep, the local stores, restaurants, cafes and little independent shops. You’ll never have to leave, just park up and enjoy.

The Beach Proposal

Is there anything more romantic than strolling hand in hand along the beach? Wrapped up in winter, cuddled together as you walk in the fresh crisp sea air. Light clothes blowing in the sea breeze in summer walking barefoot in the sand. The calming sounds of the sea lapping at the shore.

Explore rock pools for crabs and starfish surrounded by sounds of the seabirds, dramatic cliffs and the stunning Ravenscar headland. Gaze as far out to sea as the eye will let you.

Stoupe Beck sands is a really lovely spot to sit for the day. You will find it a lot quieter here. Pop the question and enjoy a romantic picnic and paddle in the North Sea.

The Cleveland Way Proposal

Do you both love to hike? Do you enjoy dramatic cliff walks? Surrounded by nothing but nature and graced with the most stunning sea views?

Spanning 109 miles in total taking in moorland and coastline, villages and towns and historical landmarks. The Cleveland Way will not disappoint.

Robin Hood’s Bay sits about halfway along the coastal stretch of the Cleveland Way. With options to head towards Whitby or Scarborough.

The walk to Whitby is an 8-mile hike. The views are breathtaking and when you reach Whitby you will be greeted by the stunning Whitby Abbey and St. Mary’s Church. Head down the 199 steps into the old town. Pop the question along the way or indeed at your final destination. Treat yourselves to romantic and world famous fish & chips from The Magpie Cafe. And pop the Champagne while admiring views over the harbour.

The Cinder Track Proposal

Do you love walking or cycling, maybe horse riding? Then The Cinder Track could be the proposal spot for you.

Ravenscar is approximately a 4.5 mile walk from Robin Hood's Bay or 9 miles there and back. This isn’t a light stroll but is much kinder on the legs than The Cleveland Way. You will get some of the same spectacular views as The Cleveland Way too.

Once you reach Ravenscar you will be met with the most stunning view across the Bay. Robin Hood's Bay stacked up houses and red pantiled rooftops tumbling down towards the sea. A picture perfect view of your favourite Yorkshire Coast village. The perfect spot to make your Cinder Track proposal.

Then Celebrate at the Ravenhall Hotel with a delicious lunch and Champagne.

Romantic Dinner Proposal

What is a romantic breakaway without a romantic dinner? Robin Hood’s Bay boasts a selection of restaurants to choose from. Dine on the freshest locally fished and landed seafood and locally sourced produce. You won’t be disappointed.

Robin Hood’s Bay restaurants have all the romantic ambience you could ask for. Many of the pubs have separate restaurant areas also.

Choices include Pizzaria, Steak and Bake, al a Carte, Classic Homemade Traditional Dishes and Seafood Dishes. There are also themed nights occasionally.

All you have to do is choose when to pop the all important question.

Afternoon Tea & Prosecco Proposal

Take a seat in the Orangery at the Victoria Hotel and gaze out to sea for a romantic afternoon tea. Pop the question and enjoy a delicious selection of sandwiches and homemade fruit scones with jam and cream. Delectable cakes and fancies washed down with oodles of tea or coffee.

Would it be romantic or a proposal if you didn't add bubbles of Prosecco or Champagne?

A Cosy Pub Lunch Proposal More Your Thing?

On blustery Winters days when the sea’s are stormy where better to retreat than a cosy pub for lunch. Rip roaring fires and hand warming glasses of mulled wine. In the brisk winter months you can always count on the Bay Hotel to be your pub lunch haven. Sit by the window and watch the stormy seas as the waves crash against each other.

For an unspoiled view over the bay grab a table in the Orangery at the Victoria Hotel. Enjoy a light lunch whilst gazing over the rooftops of the old village across to the Ravenscar Headland. In the summer months enjoy lunch in the garden breathing in the fresh sea air as you watch the sun glisten over the ripples of the sea.

Find your favourite spot and pop the question to the one you love.

Sunrise or Sunset Proposal

Watching the sunrise and the sunset are possibly two of the most romantic things you can do. Watching the sun rise or set over the sea makes it so much more special. Red, pink, orange and purple skies. The sunsets are just as spectacular in winter as they are in summer. And, you won’t have to get up so early or stay up late to catch them. Don’t forget the camera and the blankets to snuggle up warm together while you gaze at the first or last of the day’s sun.

Could there be a more stunning way to ask that special question?

Proposal Under a Thousand Stars

What can be more stunning than looking up at the night sky and seeing a thousand stars. What is more romantic than lying hand in hand staring up at the sky spotting stars. Head down to the Quarterdeck, blankets in hand and a flask of hot chocolate. Lie down on the benches, let your eyes adjust and marvel at the twinkling dots gazing back at you.

You may think stars are well just stars but here they are extra special. The North York Moors National Park is an International Dark Sky Reserve. Here it’s possible to see meteorites, the Milky Way, Planets and shooting stars.

Ask the big question under a thousand stars or more.
