Dog-Friendly Cottages in Robin Hood's Bay
Robin Hood’s Bay is a truly dog-friendly destination. With its steep cobbled streets, narrow alleys, and tidal beach, it helps to be prepared for an adventure-filled stay. Whether it’s your first visit or a return to the coast, here’s what you need to know.
Accommodation Policies: We know how much it means to have your dog(s) with you on holiday, because stays are better together. Wherever possible, we try to be flexible, but we do ask that dogs are not left alone in the cottage and, unless otherwise stated, are not allowed on the beds. You are more than welcome to bring your own throws, cleaning aids, or bed linen to make your stay more comfortable.
Have extra paws? Contact us, and we’ll help find a dog-friendly cottage that suits your needs.
Pet Fees and Charges: At Baytown Holiday Cottages, dogs stay free of charge. On rare occasions, where extra dogs are requested, a small fee may be applied to cover additional cleaning.
Tidal Access and Beach Rules: Robin Hood’s Bay beach is a rarity, allowing dogs all year round with no seasonal restrictions. However, the tide comes in quickly against the cliffs, so it’s essential to check tide times before heading out. Cliff faces are also prone to rock and clay falls, so please take care. When the tide is out, there’s plenty to enjoy with your pup, rock-pooling, fossil hunting, or exploring Boggle Hole and Stoupe Beck. If you’re hoping to spot seals, keep dogs on leads and maintain a safe distance from wildlife to avoid distress and allow safe viewing. The Cleveland Way can also be accessed from the beach, but for cliff-top walks, dogs should remain on leads due to sheer drops.
Dog-Friendly Dining and Shops: Most pubs, cafés, tearooms, and bistros in the village welcome dogs. Many even offer treats, puppachinos, or doggy ice cream for purchase. For essentials or special treats, Paws Dog Shop stocks everything you might need for your stay.
Safety on Coastal Paths: Robin Hood’s Bay sits along some of the most scenic walking routes in the UK. The Cleveland Way offers breathtaking cliff-top views but requires dogs to be kept on leads. For safe walking, try the Cinder Track, a disused railway line running from Whitby to Scarborough.
