Our Other Top Ice Cream Recommendations

Robin Hood’s Bay

Perched on the coast between the surrounding cliffs of Scarborough and Whitby sits a Bay. The backdrop of the Bay is an old Yorkshire fishing village. This is Robin Hood’s Bay, the gem on the picturesque coastal edge of the North York Moors National.

Built on a steep hill the old 17th Century village heads down to the Bay. Winding streets, steep steps and cobbled alleyways make up what was once called Baytown. A maze of a village it’s easy to get lost here in Robin Hood’s Bay. Just all part of the magic of what makes it so special.

Ice Cream

Where did Ice Cream originate?

Would it surprise you if we said China? It definitely surprised us. This version of Ice Cream is thought to have been Ice from the Mountains topped with pureed fruit toppings. This developed into Ice and Milk variations.

Thought to have been brought to Europe from China Ice Cream became popular in Italy and France. This is where the Milk varieties developed.

The first American Ice Cream Parlour opened in New York City in 1776.

Dollies Sweet Shop & Van

Dollies Sweet Shop in the Dock of Robin Hood’s Bay is a great stop for your Holiday Ice Cream fix. Dollies offer a warm welcome and a great selection of Beacon Farm Ice Cream. Just like Dollies Beacon Farm Ice Cream is a family run Business. Based in Whitby your Ice Cream doesn't come more local than this.

You won’t be disappointed with a cone or tub plain or with all the toppings from Dollies.

Heading for the beach? Here you will find probably the most famous Ice Cream Van on the Yorkshire Coast. Who said you can’t have Ice Dream twice or for breakfast for that matter.

Dollies also sell all the usual brand favourites both in the shop and on the Van. Dollies Sweet Shop is also packed to the rafters with all your favourite sweets old and new.

Browns

You will find Brown’s on New Road halfway between the bottom of Bay Bank (the enormously steep hill) and the Dock of Robin Hood’s Bay. A chocolate lover's paradise.

Brown’s serves Brymor Ice Cream, a North Yorkshire based Dairy Ice Cream. Enjoy a tub or a cone of their selection of flavours. Enjoy their delicious selection of toppings including chocolate from the famous Brown’s Chocolate Fountain.

Brown’s is also packed to the rafters with all your favourite sweets and handmade chocolates.

Ice Cream All Around The Bay

Other stockists selling all your favourite branded Ice Creams and Ice Lollies include:

Thorpe Stores in Fylingthorpe

Baytown Stores in Upper Robin Hood’s Bay

Muir Lea Stores in Lower Robin Hood’s Bay

You will also be able to find a selection of Ice Creams served in the Tearooms, Cafes, Takeaways, and Pubs of Robin Hood’s Bay.

Ice Cream Recommendations

Heading out of Robin Hood’s Bay for the day we have two great recommendations for you:

Beacon Farm in Whitby

Beacon Farm also serves a selection of Ice Cream Sundaes, Cones and Tubs. You will also find a full breakfast and lunch menu.

Harbour Bar in Scarborough

Head for a true Retro Ice Cream Parlour experience.

At the Harbour Bar you will find all the classics and more. Delicious creamy Italian soft Ice Cream.
